Blogging Basics 101: Unlock Your Business Potential

Blogs. Odds are, you’ve stumbled across at least one during your time on the internet. In fact, I’d be surprised if you hadn’t ever seen a blog. After all, there are more than 600 million blogs on the internet today, and more than a third of all websites are blogs.

So, with so much competition, why even bother starting one?

If you’re running a health and wellness business, one of the biggest mistakes you can make is not having a blog.

Why?

Because with some strategic planning, blogging can drive traffic to your website even while you’re asleep – and what business owner doesn’t want to get their website in front of more people?

What is a Blog, and Why Should I Start One?

If you’re running a business, starting a blog can be a great way to share your expertise and boost your online presence. A blog is a regularly updated section on your website that provides information and insight into a specific niche.

As health and wellness professionals, we know that there’s a lot of bad information out there. By creating a blog, health and wellness professionals can contribute to sharing accurate, evidence-based information, while leveraging their blogging work to build their private practices or sell products.

Once you’re blogging on a certain topic, you’ll start to build expertise and authority on the subject. With time, you’ll start to be seen as the go-to person in your niche, and people will seek out your website to answer their questions. For many people, this will lead to more sales of your products and one-on-one counselling.

Blogging Basics 101

If you’re just starting out, writing a blog post can feel intimidating. Luckily, following a few simple steps can get you well on your way to crafting an engaging post.

Step 1: Know your audience

One of the biggest mistakes people make when writing a blog is not defining their audience. If you don’t define your audience, you won’t be able to speak directly to their pain points.

Step 2: Write engaging headlines

If you don’t have an engaging headline, there’s a good chance that no one is going to read or share your post. When you’re coming up with headlines, appeal to the emotions of your audience and be specific about what your post is going to teach them.

Step 3: Use subheadings and short paragraphs

In our fast-moving society, people are in a hurry to get the information they want. By adding subheadings and breaking up text into smaller paragraphs, you ensure that your post is easy for your reader to skim for information.

Step 4: Add a clear call-to-action

If your blog post highlights a service you offer, be sure to add a call-to-action to access that service at the end of the post. If your post is purely informational, you can add a call-to-action that asks your reader to leave a comment or share the content if they liked what they read.

Regardless of the type of call-to-action, it’s important to leave your reader with something to do once they’ve finished reading your post.

What About Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

One of the most important aspects of blogging is figuring out what to write about. But you can’t just write about what you think is important – you need to figure out what your ideal client wants to know and write about that.

But how do you figure out what your ideal client is searching for?

Welcome to the magic of SEO, or Search Engine Optimization. SEO is what helps improve a website’s position on search engine results. By improving your ranking on search engines, you make it easier for people to find your site.

One of the many important aspects of SEO is keyword research. With strategic keyword research, you can figure out exactly what your ideal client is searching for. By writing about popular keywords in your niche, you can get your page to rank closer to the top of the search engine results page and increase the likelihood that people will visit your site.
